Hi everyone,
We are all excited and ready for our new term. Looking forward to lots of learning and fun times.

We are beginning the term with a fieldtrip to the Surrey Art Gallery. We will be viewing the "Quilt of Belonging", which is a creation of multicultural symbolism and art. After our visit to the gallery, we will be working on a quilting project of our own. The first step will be for each student to design a block to represent something from their heritage. These designs will just be on paper. The students will require some inspiration from family as to what symbols would best represent your family heritage. It seems that we have quite a diversity of cultural backgrounds in our classroom. These designs will be transferred onto fabric and then stitched together to create a classroom quilt.

Thank you for helping your child complete their book reports on Owls in the Family. We will be working on a second book report - this time on a book of their choice. Some children have already started reading their books. I will send a note in regards to this later this week. Your support is greatly appreciated.

In math the Grade 2's are learning addition and subtraction strategies with a focus on subtraction facts. The Grade 3's are working on 3-digit subtraction, checking by adding, estimating, and using mental math. They are also working on problem solving. After Easter we will be starting on multiplication and division.

For our future engineers, we are beginning a unit on structures and materials. This may prove very interesting!

Hi everyone. Yes the Grade 2/3's are still here. We had a wonderful fieldtrip to Mountain View Conservation Centre and learned a lot about rare and endangered animals. I will try to get some pictures posted for next week. You can check out the Mountain View website to learn more about the animals that we visited. It's like a modern day Noah's ark!

We will also be visiting the OWL Rehabilitation Centre at the end of February. We are excited about seeing all the raptors and learning about owls. We have just started reading Farley Mowat's novel "Owls in the Family". This story takes place on the Saskatchewan prairie. Two boys adopt a couple of owls with hilarious results. Don't worry! We will be discussing why it is not a good idea to keep wild animals as pets.

Best of all February 15th is our hundreth day of school! We are looking forward to a great day of activities and learning. If you would like to participate please sign up on the sign-up sheet outside Mrs. Wiltzen's classroom.

Grade 3's will be bringing home some math homework on Tuesdays to catch up with corrections and incomplete work. Please check that your child is finishing their homework.

Grade 2's - Some of the students are not recording all their home reading. Please make sure that your child is reaching their goal of 150 nights of reading this year.

Hi Everyone,

Sorry for the temporary silence. I have been having major problems with my computer. All is well in the Grade 2/3 classroom. Report cards have been given out and we have had an opportunity to talk to each of you at the parent/teacher interviews. A new term has begun and we are all excited about the Christmas Concert that is coming up very soon.

We will be singing a song during the program. As far as costumes go the children can wear the same costume that they will be wearing on the fieldtrip to the Lochiel schoolhouse (apioneer child).

The children are really excited about our next fieldtrip to the Lochiel school on Monday December the 7th. Please make sure your permission forms are in this week.

Hi everyone. We are all very excited about our first fieldtrip to the Space Centre tomorrow. We will be away all day Tuesday learning about space and having fun.

There is still a spelling list this week that students need to record in their planners for Wednesday. Their test will be on Friday.

We will be having a primary spelling bee on Tuesday November 24th for the Grade 1, 2, and 3 classes... this is just for fun.

Thursday students will be bringing home a study sheet for their Science Test on Monday. Please review as much as you can before Monday.
